Water on the Window Jeffrey Kahrs was born in the Hague, Netherlands and was raised in California not far from San Francisco. He received a B.A. in Dramatic Literature from U.C. Santa Cruz and an M.A. from Boston University, where he studied with Derek Walcott and Leslie Epstein. In 1988 he helped found a reading series in Seattle called Radio Free Leroy’s, which ran for six years. He worked as a union laborer, longshoreman, cannery worker, and for many years as a commercial fisherman in Alaska. Since 1993 he has lived in Istanbul where he has worked primarily as a teacher.
